A peek inside @lydiasiderius' remodeled post office

We travel to the far north, to Friesland, where we take a look inside @lydiasiderius' home. Together with her husband Yme, they are renovating an old post office from 1906 into their dream home where they live with their two daughters.

Dream house in the making

A hopeful letter through the mailbox, from the previous residents at the time, resulted in the purchase of their dream home. They fell in love with the character of the house, but a lot also needed to be done to make it to their taste and future-proof. In 2021, the family received the keys.

Rebuilding the post office

Lydia describes the first few months of renovation. "We got the keys during the corona pandemic and spent that first month stripping the entire upstairs and making the downstairs livable. More often than not, I was still standing with a paintbrush in my hands well past curfew, and then running really fast to our previous house, hoping I wouldn't run into anyone."

Highs and lows

Meanwhile, the family has been remodeling for 3 years. "When I think about that, I find it especially bizarre. On the one hand we have already done so much, on the other hand there is still plenty to do." The couple renovates almost everything by themselves while also living in it. "For the past 3 years it has been a little bit of a struggle at times and secretly quite cold," she said. When the family moved into the house, the roof was still completely off and the temperature outside dropped to minus 6.

A wonderful final goal

"We never complained and always had the end goal in mind. Even our oldest daughter (now 6) has never complained. Above all, she finds the whole renovation one big adventure and is only too happy to help out in her pink overalls. The youngest (1) does not see the difference between the old and new part.

Element sofa Finn

She describes her interior style as Scandinavian and colorful. In this fine atmosphere, element sofa Finn fits well at home. Lydia wanted an element sofa so it could easily be moved to a different setup. The color Simply Beige provides a warm and light addition to the interior.

The future

There is still plenty to plan. For example, they want to make a closet in the alcove near the dining table, and the hall and toilet still need to be renovated. The left part of the first floor will be divided. This will be a playroom for the children and an office.

Tip for handymen

A good tip for fellow handymen? "Don't get too carried away by trends, but make a mood board and think about what you like. Think carefully about your lighting plan and be patient."
