Sustainability starts with the choice of material for a product. By SIDDE is continuously working on new developments with regard to design and comfort, but also in the field of sustainability. Every year, 11 billion kilos of furniture is thrown away in Europe, of which only 10% is recycled. 

Seating consists of many different materials and often ends up in the landfill after use. By SIDDE is committed to people and the environment and has therefore looked at how we can do this differently.

By SIDDE cares about the planet. By making more conscious choices in the production process, we are making our footprint small to ultimately be completely circular.

Construction

The construction is the basis of the sofa. With sofa Liv, we use a natural material, namely wood.

Liv's construction is made of an eco-friendly board material, which contains organic glue free of harmful substances such as formaldehyde, and raw beech slats. Both materials come from a sustainably managed forest in Europe and are FSC® and PEFC™ certified.

If we never burn the product, we enjoy an environmental benefit from the CO2 stored.

Springs and comfort layer

The comfortable, metal bonell inner springs in the seat of the elements provide long life and comfortable seating. To make the construction firm we use a metal nosag under-spring.

A layer of sustainable PU foam made with recycled raw materials provides a fine, sturdy seating comfort that will last for years.

Upholstery

The upholstery not only provides the look and feel, but also a piece of furniture that remains beautiful over the years. Fabric Vide by Liv is a conscious choice that ensures the ecological footprint remains low.

Fabric Vide is made from 100% harmolan. Harmolan is a residual polymer that is stretched into yarn. Harmolan can be recycled up to 10 times. With an average life cycle of 100 years, it is the most sustainable fiber made by people.

No water is required to produce harmolan fibers. In addition, the fabrics do not absorb water and are dirt-repellent and quick-drying, making them easy to clean. We offer a 5-year stain warranty on sofa Liv.

What is circularity and what does it do?

Recycling, upcycling, downcycling and circularity. When it comes to sustainability, many different terms are used. Below we explain the different terms for you in a simple way.

Recycling is often used as a general term for reusing materials or raw materials. If the value of the end product remains more or less the same, it is recycling. Upcycling is a form of recycling in which a low-value material is made into something high-value. Downcycling is a form of recycling in which the material can be used several more times in low-value products. The raw material cannot be reused in the same quality.

When a material or raw material can be reused endlessly, we call it circularity. Circularity is the highest form of recycling. Time after time, materials can be recycled at the same high-quality level. With circularity, the circle remains closed; there is no waste.

In Liv's design, conscious thought was given to the recycling process. If you still want to say goodbye to your By SIDDE element sofa Liv, it is possible to return it to our recycling depot. Please contact us for more information.
